What happens in a check-up
Most problems in pets are found early — or missed — in the first ten minutes of an examination. Cats in particular hide pain and illness until it is advanced, so a proper hands-on exam matters more than any single test.
At every check-up we look at:
- Eyes, ears and mouth — discharge, ear mites, gum disease, broken teeth
- Skin and coat — fleas, ticks, fungal patches (ringworm), wounds and lumps
- Heart and lungs — murmurs, abnormal rhythms, breathing sounds
- Belly — organ size, pain, bladder
- Joints and posture — stiffness, limping, back pain
- Weight and body condition — the single best early warning sign we track
If something needs a closer look, we’ll recommend the test that answers the question — not a long list of tests “just in case”. Our in-house lab can run blood counts, biochemistry and rapid tests for common viral diseases the same day.
Honest advice, in plain language
Pet owners in Rangpur tell us the thing they value most is being told the truth: what is serious, what is not, and what things will cost. You’ll always hear:
- what we think is going on,
- what we recommend, and why, and
- what is optional or can wait.
We would rather you understand your pet’s care than simply follow instructions.
Check-ups for kittens, puppies and seniors
- Kittens and puppies get their first check-up alongside deworming and vaccines — see kitten & puppy care.
- Adult pets (1–7 years) do well with a yearly visit that lines up with their annual booster.
- Senior pets (7+ for most dogs, 10+ for cats) benefit from a check every six months, often with a blood test to catch kidney, liver and thyroid problems early. Use our pet age calculator to see which life stage your pet is in.
Not sure if it can wait?
Some signs should never wait for a routine appointment — a male cat straining in the litter box, laboured breathing, collapse or suspected poisoning. If you’re unsure, run through our when to see a vet checker or simply call 01783-121256 — the line is answered day and night.
