Bringing your pet to the vet from another district: a travel guide
Travelling to Rangpur for your pet's surgery or tests from Nilphamari, Kurigram, Gaibandha or Dinajpur? How to plan, what to pack and how to keep your pet safe.
Key takeaways
- Message first — many problems can be guided by telemedicine.
- A secure, covered carrier is essential for cats.
- Travel in cooler hours in summer; keep pets warm in winter.
- Bring old prescriptions, test reports and the vaccine card.
- Plan several needs into one trip.
On this page
Pet owners come to our Rangpur clinic from all over North Bengal — Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh. A little planning makes the journey safer and less stressful for everyone.
Step 1: Message before you travel
Send us on WhatsApp (01783-121256):
- your pet’s species, age and weight
- what’s wrong and since when
- a short video of the problem
- photos of any prescriptions or test reports
Our vet will tell you whether to travel now, whether it can wait, or what to do at home. See telemedicine.
Step 2: Plan the trip
- Surgery: we’ll send fasting instructions. Arrive in the morning so your pet can recover and travel home before night.
- Combine needs: vaccines, deworming and a check-up on the same day.
- Tell us your arrival time, especially for emergencies.
Step 3: Pack
- Secure carrier (cats, small dogs) or a well-fitted leash and harness
- Towels and a plastic sheet
- Water and a small bowl
- Vaccine card, old prescriptions and reports
- Any current medicines
- Poop bags for dogs
On the road
- Cats stay in the carrier the whole time — a frightened cat can bolt out of a CNG in seconds.
- Cover the carrier with a light cloth; darkness calms most cats.
- In summer, travel early morning or evening; never leave a pet in a parked vehicle. Read about heatstroke.
- In winter, protect from cold drafts, especially young and old pets.
- Don’t feed a big meal 2–3 hours before leaving if your pet gets travel-sick.
- Don’t give human sleeping pills or motion-sickness tablets.
Finding us
We’re opposite Circuit House, near DC More, in the B.Ed College lane beside Pashari Para Mosque. From any bus stand in Rangpur, an auto-rickshaw or CNG to DC More is quick. See the map and directions.
This guide is general information, not a diagnosis. If your pet is unwell, call us or visit a registered veterinarian.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring my cat on a bus?
Policies vary by operator. A secure, covered carrier makes it far more likely you'll be allowed and keeps your cat calm. For sick pets, a private CNG or microbus is kinder and faster.
Should I sedate my pet for travel?
Only with medicine prescribed by a vet who has examined your pet. Human sleeping pills and antihistamines can be dangerous.
My pet gets travel-sick. What helps?
Skip the meal 2–3 hours before leaving, keep the carrier level and covered, open a window for fresh air, and bring towels. Ask us about anti-nausea medicine for long trips.
